Carolyn Williams Strode
Carolyn Joyce Williams was born in Barren County, Kentucky, to Charlie and Elva Williams, July 15, 1929. She met her future husband, Wilborn, for the first time while riding the bus to Temple Hill High School and it was love at first sight. Their relationship matured over the next decade, surviving his service in World War II and her completion of bachelor's and master's degrees at Western Kentucky and the University of Kentucky.
After marrying in June, 1955, she supported her husband by teaching while simultaneously completing her second master's degree at Memphis State, as he attended medical school. In 1958, they moved to Nashville and she became involved in community organizations as he began his medical career prior to beginning their family in 1959. Carolyn enjoyed leadership in Medical Auxiliary of Davidson County, Belmont University as Trustee, Belmont Aid and others, while rearing their three daughters, Martha Kate, Sarah Lynne and Nancy Elizabeth. She continued to be active in First Baptist Church, the Next Door and Garden Club amongst others, while enjoying her wonderful grandchildren, Rachel Elizabeth, John Sterling, and Rebekah Lynne McCoy and Harrison Allen and Jonathan Strode Comish. While Carolyn and Wilborn were overjoyed being grandparents, they were also blessed with precious great-grandchildren, Luke Ryan and Levi Sterling McCoy. Dr. and Mrs. Wilborn D. Strode had enjoyed 64 years of marriage at the time of her passing on Sept. 15, 2019.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie G. and Elva Huffman Williams; her sisters, Ruth Matthews Nespojohn, Mary Frances Smith and a grandson, John Sterling McCoy.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Wilborn D. Strode; daughters, Martha Kate Strode, Mrs. Sarah McCoy (Mark) and Mrs. Nancy Comish (Craig); grandchildren, Rachel McCoy, Rebekah McCoy, Harrison Comish, Jonathan Comish, and great-grandchildren, Luke and Levi McCoy.
To honor her life, there will be a service at noon on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Nashville First Baptist Church with a time of visitation from 11 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Next Door, 402 22nd Ave N, Nashville, TN 37203.

The Strode family has my deepest condolences. Losing a loved one is so difficult, but may this scripture at 2 Thessalonians. 2:16&17; have some consolation for you during this difficult time. It lovingly reads, “Moreover, may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave everlasting comfort and good hope by means of undeserved kindness, 17 comfort your hearts and make you firm” during this challenging time in your life.
