Lawrence B.'s Story
Lawrence B. "Butch" Gilbert, 87, of Bowling Green, entered into rest Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at Greenview Regional Hospital.
Butch was born Jan. 28, 1930, in Bowling Green. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Mary Anne Bengston Gilbert; two sisters, Sarah Wilcoxson and Virginia Tuchol; and four brothers, Freddie, Jimmy, Arthur Earl and Wayne Gilbert.
Coach Gilbert was a retired teacher and football coach from Western Kentucky University. He was a member and deacon of Lehman Avenue Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Daphna Gabbard Gilbert; two sons, Larry Gilbert (Sandy), of Franklin, and Steve Gilbert, of Bowling Green; two daughters, Leigh Anna Wheat (Rick) and Kelli Nicks (Harold), all of Bowling Green; two wonderful grandchildren, Rachel Wheat and Ethan Wheat (Jenna), all of Bowling Green; three precious great-grandchildren, "Eli" Watson, Amyra Wheat and Adalynn Rose Wheat; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 2, 2017, at J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Visitation will be 2 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2017, and Thursday 9 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bowling Green Gardens.
