John Douglas Smith, 92, of Glasgow, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016.
He was born at Temple Hill, the son of the late Frank S. and Lillie Matthews Smith. Mr. Smith was a lifelong farmer and was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended Browders Chapel Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Geneva Guffey Smith; two sons, Gary Smith (Kathy), of Bella Vista, Ark., and Jerel Smith (Monica), of Knob Lick; five grandchildren, J.D. Smith, Jana Chilton, Jared Smith, Jeremy Smith and Jaime Smith; two step-grandchildren, Abigail and Aiken Sexton; six great-grandchildren: Kaylan, Laney and Allie Chilton, and Logan, Mason and D.J. Smith. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by three brothers, Wilton, Frank and Cecil Smith; and two sisters, Araminta Bush and Alyne Lawson.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec.10, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be provided by D.A.V. Chapter 20 of Glasgow. Visitation will be Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until time for the service.
