Barbara Jane Sears Murdock, 92, of Franklin, Tenn., passed away Jan. 13, 2017.
Barbara was born in Glasgow, on July 29, 1924, to Samuel Sears and Ruth McQuown Sears. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Church Elwood Murdock Jr.; her sister, Ruth Sears Hundley (Roy); and brother, Samuel Sears Jr. (Carolyn).
Barbara graduated from Christian College in Columbia, Missouri, after which, she enlisted in the United States Navy where she served her country as a WAVE during World War II. She met and married her husband while stationed in Charleston, S.C., and was a 42-year resident of Mobile, Ala. Barbara was a member of the Edmond Rogers Chapter of the DAR in Glasgow and a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Glasgow.
Barbara is survived by two daughters, Sue Ellen Reed (Ralph), of Franklin, Tenn., and Catherine Lee Priester (Jerry), of Collierville, Tenn.; one son, Church Elwood Murdock III, of Twin Bridges, Mont.; six grandchildren: Mark Reed, of Herndon, Va., Christi Reed Grant (Steve), of Nashville, Tenn., Leigh Priester, of Seattle, Wash., Scott Priester, of Los Angeles, Calif., Rachel Murdock Wilbur, of Jacksonville, N.C., and Ruth Murdock Larkin (Blake), of Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight great-grandchildren: Isabel Grant, of Nashville, Tenn., twins, Samuel and Sophia Reed, of Herndon, Va., Ariel Wilbur and Atlas Wilbur, of Jacksonville, N.C., and triplets, Audrey Anna, Juliet Jane and Abram Larkin, of Colorado Springs, Colo. Barbara is also survived by one sister-in-law, Sarah Jane Murdock Moore, of Lynchburg, Va.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Glasgow.
