Richard Milburn Lewis

Richard Milburn Lewis, 92, of Arcadia, Ind., passed away May 29, 2017, at Cumberland Trace Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Glasgow, to Renick Milburn and Ruby May (Smith) Lewis.
He went to Glasgow High School and then served his country in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during WWII and was awarded three Bronze Stars. From the Philippine Liberation Campaign he was awarded another Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. After being honorably discharged from the military he became a firefighter at Grissom Air Force Base. He was a member of the Cicero American Legion for over 70 years.
Upon retirement, he returned to his love of woodworking and gardening.
He was married to Imogene Williams, with whom he had four children.
Survivors include his daughter, Judy Faye Lewis Hobson, of Columbus, Ind., two sons, Richard M. Lewis Jr., of Franklin, Ind., and Garry T. Lewis, of Monrovia, Ind.; brothers, William Rondal Lewis, of Land-o-Lakes, Fla., and Charles E. Lewis, of Glasgow; a sister, Jo Ann Lewis Bunch, of Louisville; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Lewis Simon; and a brother, Eldon Lewis.
His funeral was Saturday, June 3, 2017, in Cicero, with burial at the Arcadia Cemetery in Indiana.
