Nell Young Mayes, 85, of the Lone Star Ridge community of Metcalfe County, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at her residence. Born May 10, 1931, in Edmonton, she was a daughter of the late Rissie Ellen Froedge and Hugh Carlos Young, and the widow of the late Roy Clemons Mayes. She was a housewife and of the Baptist faith. Survivors include two daughters, Carletta (Darrell) Price, of Woodburn, and Libby (Jerry) Blythe, of Edmonton; five grandchildren, Angelia Blythe, Jeff (Ashley) Blythe, Chris (Courtney) Price, Julie (Kenny) Shirley, and Kelli (Gabe) Brown; and 12 great-grandchildren, Summer Shirley, Hannah Brown, Wyatt Blythe, Carson Brown, Julya Shirley, Anna Grace Blythe, Lily Kate Blythe, J.R. Brown, Tinsley Price, Lucy Blythe, Max Price and Beau Blythe. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home, with Brother Gary Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Mayes Family Cemetery. Visitation is noon to 8 p.m. Friday and on Saturday after 8 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to T.J. Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

January - May
Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.
June - December
Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
